How to: Set up the monitor to turn off automatically when not in use.
Solution:
Select the 'Screen Saver' tab in the 'Display Properties' dialog box and select the 'Shut off monitor' check box.
1) If the monitor IS NOT Energy Star compliant, perform the following steps:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
c) Double-click the 'Display' icon. (The 'Display Properties' dialog box appears.)
d) Click the 'Settings' tab.

e) Click 'Change Display Type...'. (The 'Change Display Type' dialog box appears.)

f) In the 'Monitor Type' group, click 'Change...'. (The 'Select Device' dialog box appears.)

g) Click the 'Show compatible devices' radio button.
h) (Optional) If the display is not on the list, click the 'Show all devices' radio button.
i) Select the display from the 'Models' list box.
j) (Optional) To install a display driver that is not listed, insert the manufacturer-supplied disk containing the driver into the floppy disk drive and click 'Have Disk...'.
k) Select the 'Monitor is Energy Star Compliant' check box.
l) Click 'Close'.
m) Click the 'Screen Saver' tab and select the 'Shut off monitor' check box.
n) Click 'Apply'.
o) Click 'Close'.
2) If the monitor IS Energy Star compliant, perform the following steps:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
c) Double-click the 'Display' icon. (The 'Display Properties' dialog box appears.)
d) Click the 'Screen Saver' tab.
e) Select the 'Shut off monitor' check box.

f) Click 'Apply'.
g) Click 'OK'.
NOTE: If the energy-saving settings are not visible, check to make sure the monitor and video card, or system BIOS, support Advanced Power Management (APM 1.1) or VESA BIOS Extensions for Power Management (VBE/PM). If the computer supports power management features, but no energy-saving settings appear, make certain the 'Monitor Is Energy Star Compliant' check box is checked.
